Un altro mondiale si è concluso.
Come ogni anno, il World Longboard Championship dell’ISA si è rivelato una vera festa internazionale del longboard ad altissimo livello. Vedere le nazioni del surf riunirsi sulle onde di Sunzal, El Salvador, è qualcosa che mi riempie di gratitudine.
143 atleti provenienti da 44 nazioni: i migliori quattro di ogni Paese. Una comunità globale di appassionati e atleti, uniti nello spazio e nel tempo da una passione condivisa.
Another World Championship has come to an end.
As every year, the ISA World Longboard Championship proved to be a true international celebration of top-level longboarding.
Seeing the surfing nations gather on the waves of Sunzal, El Salvador, fills me with gratitude.
143 athletes from 44 countries — the best four from each nation.
A global community of athletes and longboard-enthusiasts, united across space and time by a shared passion.
Quest’anno il Sunzal ci ha regalato uno degli swell più potenti degli ultimi due anni. Le condizioni non sono state semplici. Solo nelle prime ore del mattino abbiamo potuto godere di qualche onda glassy, perfetta. Ma già a metà giornata il vento si alzava, e con la marea alta il mare diventava choppy, nervoso, e più imprevedibile.
This year, Sunzal delivered one of the most powerful swells of the past two years.
Conditions weren’t easy. Only in the early morning hours did we get to enjoy a few perfect, glassy waves.
By midday, the wind would pick up, and with the high tide, the ocean turned choppy, restless, and much harder to predict.

A Final’s day full of surprises
I giorni delle finali sono stati carichi di emozioni forti. Heat che sembravano finali già nei round precedenti: come l’uscita di scena inaspettata di Ben Skinner e Kai Sallas, o il percorso incredibile di Jon Garmendia, che ha portato la Spagna a pochi passi dalla finale come mai prima.
The final days were filled with intense emotions.
Some heats felt like finals even in the earlier rounds — like the unexpected elimination of Ben Skinner and Kai Sallas, or Jon Garmendia’s incredible run that brought Spain closer to the final than ever before.
I giapponesi si sono fatti notare con prestazioni solide: Taka in finale, Natsumi e Hiroka eliminati solo dopo ottimi round.
The Japanese surfers stood out with solid performances: Taka Inoue reached the final, while Natsumi Taoka and Hiroka Yoshikawa were eliminated only after impressive rounds.
Ottimo risultati anche per i giovani: L’olandese Douwe Roubroek (11º posto), appena 17 anni, ha affrontato round after round con coraggio, tecnica e grande maturità, spingendosi quasi fino alla fine e lasciando il segno tra i big. Un talento su cui tenere gli occhi puntati.
L italiana Ginger Caimi(16º posto) e la filippina Mara Lopez (7º posto), altri due nomi in piena ascesa.
Notable results also came from the younger athletes: 17-year-old Dutchman Douwe Roubroek (11th place) faced each round with courage, technique, and great maturity, nearly reaching the end and making a mark among the big names. A talent to watch.On the women side Italian Ginger Caimi (16th place) and (PHI) Mara Lopez (7th place) are two more rising stars.

TUna finale mozzafiato tra le donne. Rachael Tilly ha trionfato con l’annuncio del suo ultimo punteggio appena pochi minuti dopo la fine della heat. Prende cosi la vittoria sulla francese Alice Lemoigne, la peruviana María Fernanda Reyes e la hawaiana Sophia Culhane. Tutte hanno mostrato un livello tecnico incredibilmente alto, con noseriding e manovre di flow fluido e preciso.
A breathtaking final Among the women. Rachael Tilly triumphed with the announcement of her last score just a few minutes after the heat ended. Taking the win over the French Alice Lemoigne, the Peruvian María Fernanda Reyes , and the Hawaiian Sophia Culhane. All of them showcased an incredibly high technical level, with noseriding and fluid, precise flow maneuvers.
Edouard Delpero: il sogno francese diventa realtà
Edouard Delpero: the French dream comes true
E poi lui, Edouard Delpero. Quattro finali negli ultimi anni, senza mai riuscire a salire sul gradino più alto. Fino a oggi.
Quest’anno ha dominato: heat dopo heat, punteggi eccellenti e una finale perfetta. Ha scelto le onde giuste, ha combinato noseriding critico, cutback eleganti e potenti, tutto con un flow impeccabile. Vittoria meritatissima.
And then there’s Edouard Delpero. Four finals in recent years without ever making it to the top step—until now.
This year, he dominated: heat after heat, with excellent scores and a flawless final. He picked the right waves, combined critical noseriding with elegant, powerful cutbacks, all with impeccable flow. A well-deserved victory.
Anche gli altri finalisti hanno brillato:
Taka ha rischiato molto ma non è riuscito a completare le sue migliori onde.
Jr Esquivel ha incantato con uno stile pulito e noseriding raffinato, ma forse gli è mancata un po’ di varietà nei turn e nella connessione delle manovre.
The other finalists also shone:
Taka took big risks but wasn’t able to complete his best waves.
Jr Esquivel captivated with a clean style and refined noseriding, but perhaps lacked some variety in his turns and in the connection between maneuvers.
Colpa del setup? Forse siamo in un momento in cui le tavole 2+1 tornano a fare la differenza.
Sembra così, visto che anche il secondo classificato, il brasiliano Rodrigo Sphaier, ha dominato con la sua Lufi Sea Captain, una tavola che unisce tradizione e performance.
Was it the setup?
Perhaps we’re in a moment where 2+1’s are starting to make a difference again. Maybe performance boards helped riders get the most out of Sunzal.
It seems so, considering that the runner-up, Brazilian Rodrigo Sphaier, dominated with his Lufi Sea Captain — a board that blends tradition and performance.

Sunzal è l’onda perfetta per questa evoluzione: lunga, con sezioni diverse, offre infinite possibilità espressive. E i giudici, giustamente, hanno premiato chi sa unire Manovre tradizionali, tecnica progressiva e creatività.
Sunzal is the perfect wave for this shift: long, with different sections, it offers endless room for expression. And the judges rightly rewarded those who could combine traditional Manoveurs, progressive technique and creativity.
Dopo un paio d’anni dominati dallo “only traditional” – tavole con tail larghi per il noseriding infinito – sembra che il longboard stia trovando l’ equilibrio della varietà.
Forse anche in risposta alla deludente decisione di non includere il longboard nei prossimi giochi olimpici a LA 2028?
After a couple of years dominated by the “only traditional” approach – boards with wide tails built for endless noserides – longboarding now seems to be rediscovering a path of balanced variety.
Perhaps also in response to the disappointing decision not to include longboarding in the upcoming Olympic Games in LA 2028?

Chi lo sa. Ma una cosa è certa: questi mondiali sono, oggi, l’evento di longboard più avvincente e coinvolgente al mondo. E io sono fiero di esserci stato, di aver fatto parte di tutto questo.
Who knows. But one thing is certain: today, this world championship is the most exciting and engaging longboard event in the world. And I’m proud to have been there, to have been part of it all
Il mio risultato personale?
And my personal result?
È stata la mia terza volta a rappresentare la Germania – la mia terra d’origine – e la Sardegna, terra dove ho imparato a surfare e che ha formato il mio stile. Avrei voluto dare di più, molto di più. Ma con soli 15 minuti a disposizione in ogni heat della rep, ogni errore può essere fatale. Nell’ultimo round ho perso la priorità sul primo set e sono rimasto senza onde fino al settimo minuto. Ho sbagliato strategia.
It was my third time representing Germany – my homeland – and Sardinia, the place where I learned to long board and where my surfing was shaped. I wanted to give more, much more. But ones in the reps, with only 15 minutes per heat, every mistake can be fatal. In my last round, I lost priority on the first set and didn’t catch a wave until the seventh minute. I chose the wrong strategy.
Ma si cresce così, con gli errori. Sono cicatrici buone, che entrano nel nostro bagaglio d’esperienza e ci rendono più consapevoli.
But that’s how you grow, through mistakes. They are good scars, part of our experience, making us more aware.
