La European Surfing Federation e “Sagres Radical Clube” ci regalano la prima tappa dell’European Longboard Tour, incastonata nel paesaggio selvaggio e mozzafiato della costa di Vila do Bispo, in Portogallo. Un evento che riporta alla mente le competizioni degli anni ’90: speaker old-school da megafono, due gazebo essenziali, e una folla calorosa di appassionati del longboard. Il cellulare non prende – e in fondo, per lo spirito di comunità, è quasi un vantaggio.
The European Surfing Federation and “Sagres Radical Clube“ launch the first stop of the European Longboard Tour unfolded in the wild and breathtaking setting of Vila do Bispo, Portugal. An event that brings back memories of 90s surf contests: old-school megaphone speaker, two minimal gazebos, and a warm crowd of longboard enthusiasts. There’s no phone signal – but in the spirit of community, that might actually be a bonus.

Un totale di 30 uomini e 17 donne si sono iscritti al contest, a conferma del crescente interesse per il longboard europeo.
Un montepremi di 4.000 € /4000€ è stato assegnato rispettivamente ai primi 5 finalisti uomini e donne, suddiviso in base al piazzamento. Un passo simbolico e concreto verso il sostegno e il riconoscimento degli atleti del longboard. Montepremi più alti in Europa addirittura più alti dei montepremi degli eventi QS WSL.
A total of 30 men and 17 women registered for the contest, highlighting the growing interest in European longboarding.
Prize money of €4,000/€4,000 was awarded respectively to the top 5 male and top 5 female finalists, distributed across placements. A symbolic and concrete step forward in supporting and recognizing longboard athletes.

Il primo giorno si è rivelato particolarmente impegnativo: beach break con sezioni irregolari, mare choppy e forti variazioni dovute alle maree. Nonostante le difficoltà, il livello in acqua è stato altissimo. I rider si sono distinti per il loro flow, le manovre tradizionali e i turn a ritmo serrato su onde che spesso chiudevano in fretta. Chi ha osato, è stato premiato.
The first day was particularly demanding: beach break with irregular sections, choppy waters, and strong tidal shifts. Despite the challenges, the level in the water was incredibly high. Riders stood out for their flow, traditional maneuvers, and sharp turns on waves that often closed out quickly. Those who dared were rewarded.
Il secondo giorno ha visto lo svolgimento del primo round femminile, del main round e dei quarti di finale in un formato 2 vs 2. Le condizioni della mattina sono state più regolari, offrendo onde ideali per mettere in mostra stile, tecnica e creatività. Nel corso del pomeriggio, però, le condizioni sono gradualmente peggiorate: le onde hanno perso parte della loro energia, richiedendo maggiore adattamento da parte degli atleti.
Day two featured the first women’s round, the main round, and the quarterfinals in a 2 vs 2 format. Morning conditions were more consistent, offering ideal waves to showcase style, technique, and creativity. In the afternoon, conditions gradually deteriorated, with the waves losing power and demanding more adaptability from the surfers.
Tra i maschi, si manifesta subito lo scontro tra le scuole Francesi, Portighesi e spagnoli. Le miglior score dell’intero contestare è andata a Jon Garmendia, con un impressionante 9.5, grazie a un’onda sfruttata alla perfezione e impreziosita da un hang ten da un altro pianeta. A seguire, Nicolas Garcia Andrade, maestro del footwork, ha ottenuto un solido 9.00, Dall’ altra Martin Goret che ha impressionato con un 8.25 , dimostrando un surf consistente e sicuro per tutta la giornata.
Among the men, the clash between the French, Portuguese, and Spanish schools became evident from the start. The highest score of the entire contest went to Jon Garmendia, with an impressive 9.5, earned on a wave ridden to perfection and crowned by an out-of-this-world hang ten. Following him, Nicolas Garcia Andrade, a master of footwork, scored a solid 9.00. On the other side, Martin Goret impressed with an 8.25, showcasing consistent and confident surfing throughout the day.

Tra le heat più emozionanti della giornata, spicca quella tra la giovane Ginger Caimi e la veterana Justine Dupont, surfista francese di grande esperienza. Justine si assicura il punteggio più alto della heat con una destra eccellente, lavorata in modo critico e chiusa con un finish potentissimo. Tuttavia, le manca una seconda onda di backup, e alla fine è la giovane italiana a strappare la vittoria per soli 0.6 punti di differenza.
One of the most thrilling heats of the day was between young Italian Ginger Caimi and veteran Justine Dupont, a highly experienced French surfer. Justine secured the highest single wave score of the heat with a brilliant right-hander, ridden critically and finished powerfully. However, she lacked a strong backup score, and in the end, the young Italian edged out the win by just 0.6 points.

Tra gli uomini, le migliori onde portano la firma di Nicolas Andrade, che mette a segno due solidi 9.00. Tuttavia, l’atleta più costante è senza dubbio Martin Goret, autore di una serie impressionante di punteggi superiori a 7.00 lungo tutta la giornata (e durante tutto l’evento). Le statistiche confermano un rendimento impeccabile e una lucidità straordinaria in acqua.
Among the men, the best waves came from Nicolas Andrade, who posted two solid 9.00s. However, the most consistent surfer by far was Martin Goret, who logged a remarkable string of scores over 7.00 throughout the day (and the entire event). His stats reflected flawless performance and sharp focus in the water.

La finale è una battaglia di nervi e strategia. È Martin Goret a leggere meglio le condizioni, prendendo onda dopo onda, costruendo il proprio punteggio con intelligenza e costanza. Nicolas Andrade, invece, fatica a trovare il ritmo: riesce a ottenere solo due onde valide, che però non bastano per superare il francese. Alla fine, è Martin Goret a sollevare la coppa d’oro e a trionfare nella prima tappa dell’European Longboard Tour.
